From 1960 until 2008, Kaluga (Rus. Калуга) machine building factory made more than 9000 units of TGK2. A modern version – TGK2-M, replaced older TGK2 and it is still manufactured today. The weight of TGK2-M is slightly bigger and it is equipped with a more powerful engine. 4-stroke, 6-cylinder diesel engine provides TGK2 with 185 kw at 1500 rpm. Hydraulic transmission allows to release more power at slower speed on shunting mode and vice versa – higher speed on train mode. So, the shunter can pull the weight of 7200 kg at 3,1 mph (5 km/h) and 3600 kg at 6,2 mph (10 km/h). Maximum operational speed is 37 mph (60 km/h). Like many locomotives made in USSR, TGK2 spread over post-Soviet Union countries. Some of them are still operating today.
Diesel engine power: 185 kW;
Operational speed: 37 mph.
