Alternate routes for transportation of goods between China and Europe

On 18 August 2016, AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) and JSB Eurosib SPb – transportnyje sistemy, signed a freight forwarding service agreement, which will ensure effective cooperation between the companies. The contract covers routes between China and Europe, including the route through the port of Klaipėda.

“It is necessary to invoke our full potential and experience in order to employ all possibilities to transport the containers faster and more reliably. That is important for surviving and strengthening our position in the market of rail freight when working in an intense and competitive environment“ said the Deputy General Director of AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai, Albertas Šimėnas.

“We are looking for new ways to ship the containers from China to Europe. Some of the alternative routes are via border crossings at Zabaykalsk (Russia) or through Mongolia“, said Saulius Stasiūnas, the Deputy Director of the Freight Transportation Directorate of AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai. “The experience we gain this summer will also be very valuable. We were working with our partners Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) in June, who assisted in organizing the return trains to China.

One of the largest freight forwarding companies in Russia JSB Eurosib SPb – transportnyje sistemy, which was established in 1992, provides a complex service of transport logistics. The company owns 13.4 thousand wagons of various types, and couple of modern freight terminals. JSB Eurosib SPb – transportnyje sistemy, with its partners in China, organizes the cargo shipments on the Trans-Siberian Railway.
