On Friday 16 December 2016, the new general director of AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai Mantas Bartuška was introduced to the personnel of the company.
Previously, Mr Bartuška worked at AB Klaipėdos nafta (Klaipėda Oil) where he was general director from 2010.
“For six years I worked at AB Klaipėdos nafta, and the experience I gained there gave me an understanding of the essential processes of state-owned companies. It was a good start, so I accept the challenge to lead AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai, and I also hope for your cooperation and help in order to successfully achieve our common goals. I will seek to turn AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai into a ‘western-style’ company, so it will be effective, competitive and able to survive in the long term”, said the new general director Mr Bartuška.
The previous general director of AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai was Stasys Dailydka. He led the company from 2006 and resigned on 2 December 2016.
“Lithuanian railways is a strategic logistics company. Over the years it won a reputation of being a reliable and respected company among customers and partners throughout Europe. As a manager, I feel a great responsibility for the further activities and destiny of the company. It is crucial to have support from national institutions, so that AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai could operate efficiently. Without political support for strategic decisions, it is not possible to achieve the stated objectives, which is important for the company as well as for the country. Unfortunately, the actions of some groups directed against me personally, undermines the image and reputation of one of the strongest transport companies in Europe. In the current situation, I do not see opportunities to continue my work. I hope that the new director who will come to lead AB Lietuvos geležinkeliai, will continue to compete successfully in the international transport market, and will retain the deserved name of a reliable logistics partner” commented Mr Dailydka on his reason for resigning.
